Boston Terrier and Beagle Mix

Description: The Boglen Terrier is a hybrid and is a cross of the Boston Terrier and the Beagle. Both are pureblood breeds that have been crossed to create the Boglen Terrier. The head is square in appearance but is in proportion to the body.

The muzzle is square and blends in well to the head, being slightly thicker in width than the beagle. The nose is large and they have gained a wonderful ability to sniff and can track well.

The Boglen has the ears of the Beagle, these are large and hang downward on the side of the head and reach the eye line. The eyes are slightly protruding and the degree of this is dependent on the dogs used. They have a muscular body that is small but strong.

The front legs are long but straight and the feet are large. The tail, if left naturally, is long but in countries that permit docking the tail can be docked to give the Boston Terrier look. The weight is about 20-40 pounds.

The coat is short and flat to the skin, this is smooth. The colors you can expect to get are white and brindle or black and white.

History: This breed is young and so history is, in fact in the making. They do have a great history in their pureblood lines but for the Boglen dog it has just begun. A note here is that the female is usually the Beagle.

Temperament: The Boglen is a very high energy dog. This is a dog that from both sides is a working dog, and so you must expect a dog with a lot of energy and stamina.

This dog will need to have a lot of attention both in walks, being long, and consistent training as they can be very stubborn. They will need a good firm but calm pack leader and offering good socialization while the dog is young will prevent the dog being too shy and or over apprehensive.

They will need good mental and physical exercise daily and will be suited to the active person or family.

They are confident and are risk takers so when out walking; unless you know it is 100% safe keep this dog on the lead.

They will love to scent out the odd rabbit or other small animal and will be off on the chase, only thinking of that and so can get into all sorts of trouble, from cars and roads, to going off too far and not knowing where you are so a lead is best.

They get on with other dogs and are good with children. The Boglen is a strong chewer, and so you will need to get in some chew toys that are safe. Here is a dog that loves to be with you and makes a good companion dog, they will not like to be on their own for lots of hours.

The Boglen will need house rules, that are consistent, to bring out the best in this breed.

The Boglen is food motivated and this can be used to help with training.

They have a bark that is from the Beagle and this could be a bay bark. This dog is good at agility and this is a good way to get some of that energy used up.

Health issues: For the best understanding of any health issues, please check both pure breeds but to date there are no health issues for the Boglen.

Grooming: The Boglen has a short coat so the grooming requirement is low. A hound glove will keep the coat clean and shining.
Living conditions:

The Boglen will need a garden of average size that has good fencing but can live in an apartment if getting the right amount of exercise.
