Czechoslovakian Wolfdog

Description: The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is a new breed that has only been around for a while. This dog is like its name and looks like a wolf. They are tall and very light on their feet.

This is a strong dog and can run 62 miles easily. The dogs build is like the wolf as is its coat. The height is at least 26 inches in the dog and 24 inches in the bitch.

The weight in the dog is 54 pounds and in the bitch we see 44 pounds. Their expression shows the sex of the dog. The eyes are an amber color and slightly angled.

The ears are pricked and triangular but small in size these are one of the main features of this breed. The teeth meet in a scissor and plier-shape, these are strong.

The tail reaches the tarsus’s when lowered and is set high when in motion. The limbs are straight, which gives a light balanced movement with long steps. The coat is straight, thick and close.

The colors are from a yellow grey to silver-grey with a light mask. Life expectancy is 12-16 years.

History: This dog the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog came into being through biological experiments that took place in CSSR, this was to cross the German Shepherd dog with a Carpathian Wolf.

This experiment worked and in 1965 after the ending of the experiment a plan was formed to introduce this new breed. In 1982 they were recognized as a national breed.

This dog has a brilliant sense of direction and lightening speed reactions. Following a trail is just not hard for this dog and they can work day or night. The first breeding was recorded in Hungary, Austria and Slovenia.

In their history they have been used by the army as they are able to work as a pack without the need of human supervision this coupled together with an ability to work in all extremes of weather.

Temperament: Here is a mix of two characteristics, being strong mindedness and independence from human supervision, which result in a dog/ wolf. The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is fearless and has a lot of courage.

They are loyal to the right owner and this is not a dog for the first time dog owner. This dog needs, more than most, a really strong minded owner that has really good canine understanding with lots of experience.

They can be very playful but really need a strong pack leader to look up to for all their guiding. They are intelligent and learn easily but if you do not keep their attention on the training then they get bored.

They need to train within their instinctive purpose to keep the motivation facture high. The needs of this breed are such that if you are not strong minded or are lacking in leadership this dog can become very temperamental and dog aggressive.

They use a range of communication not just a bark, indeed just barking is not natural for this dog. They take more time, to become stable and reliable within their work, than other traditional breeds.

They are not to be trusted with other pets. They are good with children but very suspicious and watchful of strangers. This dog needs lots of daily exercise both mentally and physically, brisk walks and jogging are the best things to burn up this dogs high energy levels.

They need space and will love runs in the country. They can seem docile but have quick reactions.

Health issues: The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog has good health over all but there are some that have hip dysplasia.

Grooming: The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is clean and odorless and grooming is not required. The coat sheds dirt on its own.

They are heavy shedders and this is twice a year. You will not need to bath this dog.

Living conditions: As mentioned earlier The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog needs lots of exercise and more again.

If you can meet these needs and are a strong leader for this dog it can live in an apartment. They love open spaces and this needs to be well fenced if they are out on their own.
