The eyes are big but not over powering with black eyelids, the color is dark ochre. The tail is carried up over the back and is curved.

The ears are set high and hang down, giving the impression of making the head look bigger. The dog is fluffy in look and this is important.

The coat is single and has to be pure white, this is long hair. Life expectancy is 12-14 years.

History: The Bolognese comes from Italy in the southern regains. The history goes back to the 11th and 12th century. It has all ways been a companion dog.

Having fame in the royal courts, of Spain and other royal courts in Europe and Russia. Being in the paintings of the time and also in the paintings of the 1500’s.

Goya and Titian are artists that have used this breed in their work. In 1989 it was recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale.

Temperament: This dog is not too active and while liking to be a companion dog it is a dog that is reserved with people it doesn’t know.

They have very good hearing and will often bark at things you may not hear. The Bolognese is intelligent and very close bonds can form with their owner.

They do need good leadership that is firm but gentle, setting rules in the home helps this dog become a good all around dog and not get small dog syndrome which is coursed by humans treating the dog as a human and or baby.

This sadly brings out the worst in the dog, and you can get a lot of bad behavior as the dog doesn’t understand it is not the pack leader and they will spend all the time trying to keep you in line.

With good consistent leadership this dog is happy being a dog and not having to worry about everything. The dog is naturally less active than similar breeds but will still require walks daily and loves to have play sessions built into the day.

The Bolognese is easy to train and will want to please. They are good with children and can live with other pets.

Health issues: The Bolognese has nothing to indicate any health problems, and they seem to be of good health, check with local breeders for more information.

Grooming: This breed the Bolognese needs to be groomed daily. The coat can mat and tangle easily, pay extra attention to the legs, ears and tummy.

Living conditions: The Bolognese is happy in an apartment and will like a small garden. They only require 20-30 minutes walking a day but will not like to be left on their own for hours and hours.

If you can’t find a local breeder in your area don’t worry, many breeders are using the major airlines like American, Delta, Continental and Northwest airlines for shipping their puppies.
